作者：罗伯特路易斯斯蒂文森（Robert Louis Stevenson，1850-1894）是英国新浪漫派作家，苏格兰人，出生在爱丁堡。斯蒂文森1867年在爱丁堡大学先攻读土木工程，不久改学法律，1875年成为一名开业律师。当学生时他就酷爱文学，从事写作。有惊人的创作力，并在大学期间就开始给杂志撰稿，1878年他出版了游记《内河航行》，次年又出版了《驴背旅程》。1879年他到加利福尼亚，第二年在那里与奥斯本夫人结婚。尽管体弱多病，他却从未中断写作。他为各种杂志写了大量散文、小说、游记和自传等，他还从事诗歌和戏剧创作。1883年出版儿童冒险小说《金银岛》获得成功，给他带来巨大声誉。1885年出版诗集《一个孩子的诗园》，1886年出版小说《化身博士》、《绑架》，1887年出版诗集《林下灌木丛》。他的作品还有小说《新天方夜谭》（1882）、《快乐的人们》（1887）等等。1888年因为健康原因，斯蒂文森同夫人迁居南太平洋萨摩亚岛养病。1893年出版以岛民生活为题材的短篇小说集《岛上夜谭》。1894年突患中风去世，葬在岛上。
